Acclaimed Celtic fingerstyle guitarist Jerry Barlow performs at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts.
Reservations for this special limited-seating performance can be made by calling 731-SHOW (7469) or on the PSCA website www.pagosacenter.org. Tickets are $15.
Barlow’s repertoire is a synthesis of his own Celtic inspired compositions and traditional music of the British Isles. A consummate musician who has been on the A-list of concert musicians in Colorado for years, Barlow is known for his musical expertise and his extraordinary rapport with his audience, with his abundant wit and humor.
Barlow specializes in a guitar style developed over 30 years ago in the British Isles as musicians began transposing Celtic melodies traditionally played on the harp, pennywhistle and fiddle to the guitar.
The style, known as “finger-style,” enables the guitarist to play bass, melody and chords at the same time, similar to classical guitar. Barlow is among a relatively small group of guitarists proficient in this subtle and beautiful style.
The title song from one of Barlow’s CD, “Bring Down the Storm,” won the prestigious Independent Music Award.
Jerry performs at theaters, concert halls and libraries throughout the Midwest and Rocky Mountain region. His expressive arrangements have been described as, “music to soothe the soul, warm the heart and lift the spirit.”
The Jerry Barlow concert is produced by Elation Center for the Arts in collaboration with the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts.
