At this time of year, gift giving is foremost in many of our minds.
While we might ponder which gift(s) to give friends, loved ones, business associates or our children’s teachers, others in our community worry about how they will pay their rent, find money for clothing for their children, or whether they will use their available monthly money for food, for heat, or for a much-needed prescription.
There is a gift giving oppportunity here in Pagosa Springs that is a win-win opportunity for everyone. This program is called “Gifts of the Heart.”
Sponsored by Community United Methodist Church, this concept gives you the opportunity to present a gift to someone and help a member of our community at the same time. Here is how the program works:
• Stop by the Methodist Church office on Lewis Street any Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. or on Friday morning and see the wide selection of greeting cards that are available.
• For a minimum donation of $5 per gift you will be offered a choice of several beautiful greeting cards that celebrate occasions such as Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, memorials or general greetings. With the message that goes along with each card, its recipient will know that you have made a donation in his or her honor or memory that will truly help make the difference in the life of someone in our community.
• When you purchase a “Gifts of the Heart” card you will be able to choose one of three organizations that will benefit from your support: the Community Assistnce Fund, Archuleta County Eduction Center’s After School Tutoring Program, or the Food Pantry at the Methodist Church.
Each beautifully designed card is of a quality equal or superior to most commercial greeting cards that do not carry anywhere near the positive impact these do.
A “Gift of the Heart” is a gift that continues to give all year long. It gives you, the gift giver, the satisfaction of giving a meaningful gift to a friend or loved one. It gives the recipient of this gift card the joy of knowing a thoughtful gift from you will benefit someone who appreciates assistance during these times. The local people who benefit from your generosity might receive such services as a food box, help with transortation, medical assistance, counseling, a chance to be more successful in school, a pair of shoes or a warm jacket.
This program will not end when the 2011 holiday season is over. The cards are available throughout the year in the church office.
