The Pagosa Springs High School’s 24th annual Wolf Creek Classic begins tomorrow afternoon with four teams vying for the 2011 tournament crown.
The Pirate boys’ and girls’ teams earned bragging rights during last year’s tournament. The boys easily defeated the Dolores Bears 58-29 during the opening night’s match, then took the tournament crown on Saturday night with a 46-42 victory over the Gunnison Cowboys. Likewise, the Lady Pirates met little resistance for the title, taking down the Dolores Bears 51-32 on Friday night then skinning the Cortez Panthers 52-20 on Saturday night in the championship game.
This year, all four teams from last year’s tournament return.
Tournament play begins tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m. and continues on Saturday with a 2:30 p.m. start time. Ticket prices (for each day) are $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and district K-12 students. Family and season passes will be honored.
