Blood drive important to winter supply

Residents in Pagosa Springs and the surrounding area will have an opportunity to save lives and earn extra Hero Rewards points at the Pagosa Springs Community blood drive.

United Blood Services will be at the CrossRoad Christian Fellowship on Thursday, Dec. 8, from 1:30-6 p.m.

All donors will receive a free wellness checkup and Hero Rewards points that can be redeemed for gifts such as movie tickets, DVDs and CDs from the online Hero Rewards store.

Donors who bring a first-time donor will earn an additional 200 Hero Rewards points as will the first-time donor. United Blood Services is also donating one dollar on behalf of each donor to the United Way as part of the United Blood Services’ Be a Hero Squared program.

All blood drives are important and this one is no different as we enter the holiday and winter seasons. Historically, this is the time of year when donations begin to decline. However, the need is still there. The community of Pagosa Springs has always been supportive in the past and we look forward to the generosity of the community members again. There is a need for all blood types, but most importantly, type O negative. We encourage donors to bring a friend to help build our donor base.

Appointments are encouraged and can be made by calling (970) 385-4601 or by visiting and using sponsor code: AD242.

Donors who are 16 and 17 years may donate with parental consent. Photo ID is required. Donors are encouraged to eat a healthy meal and drink plenty of water prior to donating.
