December 6 is Colorado Gives Day 2011, a 24-hour online opportunity to donate to the charity of your choice.
Colorado Gives Day is a program of the Community First Foundation. Last year, across the state, Coloradoans donated $8.4 million in one day.
This year, United Way of Southwest Colorado is one of the local nonprofit organizations you can choose for your donation.
To donate online for this one-day event — Tuesday, Dec. 6 — visit www.givingfirst.org and click on the “Donate Now” button. You can search by organization name, type or location. The website features a profile of every organization and a “shopping cart” method of donating.
United Way of Southwest Colorado’s home office is in Durango, with a zip code 81302, but all donations received from zip code 81147 will remain in Archuleta County.
United Way of Southwest Colorado serves five counties in the southwest region of our state. In Archuleta County, 18 partner agencies work in the areas of education, self-reliance and health. A committee of local volunteers thoroughly reviews all applications to ensure funded agencies are well managed and financially sound, and deliver programs that are needed and effective. United Way’s overhead rate for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2011 was only 7.37 percent for workplace donors and those who make one-time gifts.
You can also donate directly to United Way of Southwest Colorado by visiting our website at www.unitedway-swco.org and clicking the “GIVE” button, or by contacting the local office. United Way’s office in Pagosa Springs is generously donated by Jann C. Pitcher Real Estate, located at 2261 Eagle Drive.
