Films feature work by Pagosa artist Cecil Touchon

Artworks by Pagosa artist Cecil Touchon make a cameo appearance in the currently showing movie “Breaking Dawn.”

Two red and white paintings that Touchon refers to as “typographic abstractions” are seen in full view about halfway through the movie. Arrangements were made to use Touchon’s works through his art dealer in New York City — Sears/Peyton Gallery who has represented Touchon’s work since the 1980s.

Touchon’s work has also been seen in the 2009 movie “Everybody’s Fine,” starring Robert DeNiro and Drew Berrymore, and will be in two upcoming movies: “Man on a Ledge,” a thriller starring Sam Worthington and Ed Harris (releases January 2012) and “The Wedding,” a comedy also starring Robert DeNiro as well as Amanda Seyfried, Robin Williams, Susan Sarandon and Diane Keaton (releases Oct 2012).

Touchon & Co recently returned to Pagosa Springs after spending a number of years in Cuernavaca, Mexico, home town to Touchon’s wife, Rosalia, and then Fort Worth, Texas, before retuning to Pagosa this fall. Many Pagosans may remember the Touchons from their downtown restaurant, Café Cuernavaca, which they operated in the mid 1990s.

Touchon is a contemporary painter and collage artist who is well known for his elegant abstract artworks. His work is widely collected, with works in many public and corporate collections around the world.  A favorite of top interior designers, Touchon’s work has been seen on the pages of Veranda Magazine, Elle Décor, Atlanta Homes and House Beautiful.

On the international art scene, Touchon is known for his project, The International Museum of Collage, Assemblage and Construction ( Touchon hopes to find a space here in Pagosa Springs to establish the museum and mount exhibitions by artists from around the world.
