Christmas in Pagosa festivities this weekend

This first weekend in December brings not only Christmas in Pagosa festivities but also the Parade of Stores.

More than 40 retail merchants participate in the No Tax Shopping Extravaganza with no sales tax, special discounts, and an array of open houses, store specials and wonderful gift prizes.

The Parade of Stores is hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the retail merchants, to remind residents to shop locally and also to attract regional visitors to Pagosa to enjoy our unique retail shops, restaurants and all the fun festivities that will be going on this weekend.

There are two parts to the Parade of Stores weekend.

For no purchase, participants can pick up their frequent shopping cards at the Chamber or at any of the participating stores. Posters are displayed at all participating shops.

By partaking in the shopping extravaganza, you can qualify to win prizes donated from each of the participating stores. Participants need to be 18 years of age and will need to get 18 stamps on their card in order to be entered into the drawing.

Another part of the weekend is the Super Prize Packages. For every $10 you spend at a participating store, you can enter to win one of two trips, or a Super Spa Day in Pagosa ,simply by filling out your drawing ticket. Smart shoppers will bring address labels with them to place on the tickets to save lots of time. Make sure your address labels have your phone number on them. When you purchase items from the participating stores, your Super Prize Packet drawing tickets will be issued at the store where you purchased your goods.

When you’ve finished shopping, you can turn your cards in at any of the stores or drop them off at the Chamber. If we are closed, just slip them through the mail slot.

Cards must be turned in by Sunday, Dec. 4. Cards will be tallied, tickets will be collected from the stores and the winners drawn, announced and notified on Wednesday, Dec. 7.

The weekend is also filled with free and inexpensive activities to entertain residents and visitors of all ages.

Santa will be making a stop at the Visitor Center again this year. Bring the children for a wonderful photo opportunity with Photos by Griz. Hot and cold drinks, holiday cookies, party favors and photos will be offered from 3 to 5:30 p.m.
