Not long ago, a single mom was working two minimum wage jobs to support two school age children.
She would arrive home late, exhausted and unable to help her children with their homework. The boys were struggling, becoming discouraged, until a teacher suggested Archuleta County Education Center’s K-8 After School Tutoring Program.
Now she knows that, not only do her children have the help they need, but they also have a safe after-school environment until she returns home. While it is still difficult, through the After School Tutoring Program, she has hope that her children will have a brighter future.
We know life can be a struggle. Difficult economic times impact all of us. We want to help, but may not know how to make a difference for someone in real need.
A program — Gift of the Heart — sponsored by Community United Methodist Church, helps make a difference. Donations can be directed to one or all three programs: Community Assistance Fund, Food Bank and the Archuleta County Education Center. Gifts of the Heart donations fund these programs that provide needed food or help with heating, medicine or other critical items, or for education.
Gifts of the Heart cards, given to family and friends to celebrate Christmas, a birthday, a memorial or other special events, benefit these programs. These cards have a monetary value given on behalf of people we care about and help support one or all these valuable programs. Our contributions are helping real people.
