Pagosa Springs resident Cynthia Montanez, BS, RN, has been awarded a $5,000 scholarship from the Nursing Economics Foundation to pursue graduate-level nursing education at Chamberlain College of Nursing.

Montanez is a student in the master of science in nursing program at Chamberlain College of Nursing. She earned her bachelor of science degree from St. John’s University and a bachelor of science in nursing degree from Case Western Reserve University. After graduation, she intends to look for teaching or public health nursing positions, as well as begin her goal of writing nonfiction health care books for children, teens, and young adults.

Since it was established in 1990, the Nursing Economics Foundation has promoted the advanced educational and research activities of nurse executives who are pursuing graduate-level degrees. With the 2011 scholarships, the foundation has awarded $290,000 to future nurse executives for tuition, fees and other expenses incurred while completing their degrees.
