Would you like to have a beautiful fresh wreath similar to the one on this PREVIEW cover for your own home or for a gift this holiday season?
The annual Russ Hill Bazaar at the Community United Methodist Church (434 Lewis St.) is in full swing and orders for fresh wreaths and table arrangements are being accepted.
Bazaar workshop hours for calling in orders or for placing orders in person are 9 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays through Friday, Dec. 2, with the exception of Thursday and Friday, Nov. 24 and 25. On these two days the “elves” will be enjoying Thanksgiving with their families.
Orders can be placed in person at the church, by phone at the special bazaar order desk (264-4538), or by mail. Mail order information has been sent to individuals who placed orders last year. This phone number is a dedicated bazaar line and is not the same as the church office number.
The wreathes are made from fresh boughs that have been cut locally within the past week and from a variety of fresh pinecones. They are available in a number of sizes. The written size description can be deceiving, so please consider this when you place your order. For example, what is called an 8-inch wreath simply refers to the measurement of the “hole” in the center of the wreath. When an 8-inch wreath is completed it often measures 22-24 inches across.
Basic wreath costs are: 8 inch —$25; 10 inch— $30; 14 inch — $40; and 16 inch — $50. The 8-, 14-, and 16-inch wreaths will be made until the existing supply of wreath rings is depleted. After that, and for the future, only 10-inch wreaths will be made.
Centerpiece/table arrangement prices begin at $15.
The basic wreath price includes a large bow (with a choice of several colors) and a variety of fresh pinecones. Custom-colored bows and a large variety of themed embellishments are also available for you to choose from. The final cost of a custom order will depend on the embellishments that are selected. You can also opt to bring in your own favorite ornaments or decorations for your wreath or centerpiece.
Shipping is available for 8-, 10- and 14-inch wreaths and for centerpieces that will be going out of town. Check with the phone order desk (264-4538) or at the walk-up order desk for shipping charges. UPS pickups are made daily and wreaths are shipped or are available for pickup as they are completed.
Everyone is invited to drop by the “workshop” between 9 a.m. and noon or 1 to 3 p.m. to see the wreathmaking process. This is quite a production, involving upwards of 40 individuals on any given workday
This is the 49th year the for bazaar. It is named for Russ Hill, the gentleman whose idea it was to make wreaths to raise money to benefit a small number of church endeavors.
Now, nonprofit groups throughout the community can apply to the bazaar board for grants for specific projects or activities. Each year, groups within the church and throughout Pagosa Springs benefit from your purchases, and you and/or your wreath recipients benefit by enjoying a beautiful homegrown and handmade symbol of the holiday season.
