Residents of Archuleta County in need of bicycles for their children (ages 4-16) for this holiday season can apply at the Pagosa Springs Nurturing Center located at 802 Rosita St.
Requests for the bicycles must be received by noon, Wednesday, Nov. 23.
Since 2001, the Pagosa Springs Area Association of Realtors (PSAAR) has sponsored the Bucks for Bikes program, with the majority of the contributions coming from its members.
This year, we have two additional sponsors: The Hub Bike Shop and Pedal and Powder. Both of these local businesses will be providing the bicycles and helmets at cost to PSAAR, which will allow us to purchase even more bicycles.
Fulfilling children’s dreams takes a high degree of strong volunteer work from numerous directions: money is raised, a list of the children in need is created, the bikes are purchased locally and assembled, then distributed to the families in time for Christmas — all by volunteer efforts.
First and foremost, Bucks For Bikes needs donations to help these dreams come true in Archuleta County. Last year, generous donors contributed enough money to purchase 42 new bikes and helmets for children between the ages of four and 16. The goal this year is to raise more than $6,000. Business and individuals alike are invited to contribute — all donations are tax-deductible.
Donations can be mailed to or dropped off at the Pagosa Springs Area Association of Realtors, 190 Talisman Drive, No. D-5, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147.
Checks should be made payable to Bucks For Bikes. The donation deadline is Tuesday, Nov. 29.
