The San Juan Outdoor Club (SJOC) will hold its monthly meeting tonight at 6:30 at Vista Clubhouse on Port Ave.
This is an especially important meeting and members, prospective members and interested guests are urged to attend.
Why is this such an important and special meeting? The “Very Merry Holiday Extavaganza Silent Auction” will be held. Here is an opportunity to find great items for those on your gift list, or for yourself. Wonderful, high-quality donations have come in and more are being added throughout the day today.
The money that will be raised by this fun event will all go to the club’s scholarship fund. Each spring, the club is proud to be able to present college scholarships to several deserving Pagosa Springs High School seniors. It is hoped that upwards of $2,000 can be raised for this worthwhile program. The club was unable to hold the annual Ski and Sports Swap this year, so this is the major fund-raiser for these important scholarships.
Without the support of the membership and the community, this scholarship fund cannot grow. Plan to attend and enjoy a fun evening, outbidding your friends and neighbors for items you have your heart set on. The auction, along with refreshments, will run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. At that point, the bids will be tallied by the auction committee while everyone else enjoys the upcoming activity announcements, a short business meeting and the monthly program.
For the program this month, there will be presentations by recipients of SJOC donations to Community Education funds in other nonprofit organizations. (The 2011 scholarship recipients spoke to the group at a summer meeting.)
If you have something you would like to donate to the auction, it is not too late. Just bring your item with you by 6:30 p.m. and a bid sheet can be attached to it.
