Residents in Pagosa Springs and the surrounding area will have an opportunity to help stock the blood supply for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday at a blood drive.
United Blood Services will be at the Springs Resort and Spa on Wednesday, Nov. 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the bloodmobile. The Springs Resort and Spa is located at 165 Hot Springs Blvd.
Donors will be entered into a drawing for items such as soak tickets, a full body spray tanning session and organic skin products. In addition to the drawing, donors will receive a free cholesterol test and Hero Rewards points that can be redeemed for gifts such as movie tickets and ice cream from the online Hero Rewards store. United Blood Services is also donating $1 on behalf of each donor to the American Diabetes Association as part of the United Blood Services’ month-long Be a Hero Squared program.
All blood drives are incredibly important and this one is no different as the holiday season approaches. Historically, this is the time of year when donations begin to decline. However, the need is still there. Officials at United Blood Services are pleased that the Springs Resort and Spa is hosting this drive — it’s their first. The community of Pagosa Springs has always been supportive and UBS looks forward to the generosity of the community members again. There is a need for all blood types but most importantly, type O negative.
Appointments are encouraged and can be made by calling Lisa Austin at 264-4168, Ext. 446.
Donors who are 16 or 17 years may donate with parental consent. Photo ID is required by all donors. Donors are encouraged to eat a healthy meal and drink plenty of water prior to donating.
