Veterans Administration offers burial benefits

The VA has the following burial benefits:

A Burial Allowance, toward the expenses of the funeral and burial of the veteran’s remains.

A Plot Allowance, toward the cost of the plot or final resting spot of the remains.

Additional expenses may be paid for specific instances, when the veteran’s death occurred as the result of a service-connected disability, or under VA care.

The claim can be filed by the funeral director, the person paying for a funeral, the veteran’s estate, or a state official, depending on how expenses were paid.

There is a time limit on filing for the burial benefits, which is within two years of the veteran’s permanent burial or cremation.

In addition, proof of death in the form of the public record of death must be submitted.

Please feel free to contact the VSO office for assistance and more information, as this is just a brief summary of this benefit.
