A meeting of the San Juan Tree Farmers will take place Saturday, Sept. 24, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Bill and Patti Szilva Tree Farm near Bayfield.
The Szilvas were recognized earlier this year as the San Juan Outstanding Tree Farmer of the Year and will provide a field tour and discuss the management of their 40 acres of forestland and the utilization of forest products.
Tim Reader of the Colorado State Forest Service (CSFS) will discuss the Colorado Wood Utilization and Marketing Program and present a program about, “adding value to your wood products.”
The Szilvas will provide examples of Spanish colonial wood furniture and treated fence posts, as well as a chainsaw mill and solar dry kiln that exemplify the value-added concept.
The Szilva property is located at 48447 E. U.S. 160, approximately six miles east of Bayfield.
Forest landowners and those interested in wood product utilization and marketing are welcome.
