For years, we made available yearly calendars that included beautiful scenes in Pagosa Country.
But, these calendars have been absent for the past several seasons, with locals and visitors asking for them. Therefore, the Chamber decided to bring these calendars back, by popular demand.
The 2012 Pagosa calendars are now on sale at the Chamber and various local locations. If you own or manage a retail outlet, you are welcome to purchase calendars at a wholesale price and to sell them at your stores.
The point is to promote Pagosa and let people take a piece of our community home with them.
Every month features a different scene, each urging the viewer to “wish they were in Pagosa,” or showing locals enjoying the reasons we live here.
We would like to thank the monthly sponsors of the calendar. We also have major events listed — those we knew about at press time. This serves as a reminder to organizations that we plan a year out. So, as soon as you know dates of events, get them to the Chamber, since we want to help promote your events.
Calendars are available retail for $10 (tax included). These calendars make great gifts for clients, especially in the real estate arena, as we want to continue to pique people’s interest in our community.
It’s all about Pagosa, and we want to help get the word out and get photos in front of everyone.
For more information, or to purchase calendars in bulk, contact Stacy Kirby, special events coordinator, at 264-2360. Or, stop by the Chamber to get your calendar and hang it up at your home or office.
It is ColorFest Weekend, with hot air balloons, music, fantastic food, and tasty wines, microbrews and spirits.
There is a complete listing of the weekend’s events in The PREVIEW section.
Tickets are available for all the events — except the wine dinners — at the Chamber of Commerce. Don’t miss out on all the fun. Make sure you bring a light jacket for the early morning and late evening cool weather.
Welcome to all our early fall visitors and to the hot air balloon pilots who help make this event possible.
On this 10-year anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, Pagosa will be remembering the events of the day at two different ceremonies.
The day begins on Lewis Street at 12:15 p.m. Spearheaded by the Community United Methodist Church, St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church and Pope John Paul II Church, this non-denominational celebration will begin with bagpipe music followed by a period of silence. Attendees are encouraged to bring their favorite bell and after the period of silence, bells will be rung. That’s it — no speeches, just remembrance.
At 2 p.m. at Pagosa Fire Station No. 1 on North Pagosa Boulevard, there will be a remembrance and ground-breaking ceremony. An artifact from the Twin Towers will be the located at the station and the ground-breaking ceremony for the memorial will take place at approximately 2:20 p.m. There will be a welcome address and benediction introduction, the Community Choir will entertain throughout the ceremony, and there will also be a “missing man” flyover and remarks by a 9/11 responder.
Time to switch
For all “Time of Use” customers with La Plata Electric, this is a reminder that winter use hours are just around the corner.
Beginning on Thursday, Sept. 15, time of use changes. No more Saturday and Sunday all day usage. Low-rate use hours are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily from Sept. 15 to May 15, 2012. Low peak hours will also occur all day on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
For those who are not familiar with LPEA’s Time of Use program, customers can take advantage of “peak” and “off peak” rates, creating not only significant savings in kilowatt hours, but also cost savings to the user. If people can shift or spread out their usage to “off peak” periods, it helps even out the flow of the demand for electricity. While not a program for everyone, Time of Use generates creative planning and use of some pre-programming which, in turn, could save the consumer hundreds of dollars throughout the year. If you would like to find out more about the Time of Use program, contact La Plata Electric Association.
We want to remind our members that if you are interested in placing an item in the upcoming newsletter, we will need 650 inserts by Sept. 26. The inserts will go into the October/November newsletter. This is a great time to promote a fall or winter special or upcoming event. For more information, contact me at 264-2360.
We would like to welcome two renewals: Nathan Thomas and Cornerstone Accounting Services, and Friends of the Chamber, Dr. Malcolm and Joan Rodger.
