Sixth District State Senator Ellen Roberts will be the featured speaker at the Sept. 13 Archuleta County Republican Women’s Meeting. She will give insights into “Life in the Legislature 2011” — what has been the impact of budget cuts?
All are welcome to attend the ACRW meeting Tuesday Sept.13, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Boss Hogg’s Restaurant.
Ellen will be speaking from an expansive political knowledge base acquired after spending two terms in the Colorado House of Representatives and now completing her first year in the Colorado State Senate, where she is the first woman elected to the Senate seat. Well-deserved praises include from the Denver Post: “In her first term as State Representative, Ellen has been a rising star in the Colorado State House. Her non-partisan positions on issues critical to the state of Colorado and to her constituents have earned her respect from both voters and fellow lawmakers.”
A few of a multitude of accomplishments quoted from her website include: in 2009, she received the Legislator of the Year 2008 award from Mental Health America of Colorado, and the Colorado Youth Corps Association’s 2008 Champion of Youth award. In the summer of 2009, Ellen was one of four U.S. state legislators invited to participate as faculty for the Middle East Partnership Initiative workshop in Algiers, Algeria. Most recently, Ellen was honored to be appointed in July, 2009, as vice chair of the National Conference of State Legislature’s Legislative Effectiveness Committee for 2009-2010.
At her website, ellenroberts.com, a vast amount of information can be found, including a list of bills she sponsored in 2011 and a very informative “Life in the Legislature” column. All good pre-meeting reading for those interested.
