‘Mushrooms: Good for You, Good for Me’

Mushrooms are prevalent in the area after the monsoons start.

Gretchen Fitzgerald will lead a slow-paced hike on Wolf Creek Road (FR 725) to identify mushroom species. The hike will take place Tuesday, Aug. 23, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

From Pagosa Springs, head east on U.S. 160 for approximately 20.8 miles. If you reach the Wolf Creek parking area and interpretive signs, you have gone too far.

Make a right on FR 725 and follow the road for 1/10 mile until you reach the parking area. Make sure you wear hiking boots or hiking shoes, and bring drinking water and raingear.

For additional information on other interpretive events for the 2011 season, contact the Pagosa Ranger District at 264-2268 or stop by the office at 180 Pagosa St.

Office hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Friday from 8-5:30.
