This weekend — Friday, Aug. 12, and Saturday, Aug. 13 — the gym at the Ross Aragon Community Center will be transformed into a quality book store, with bargain book prices.
The event is annual Friends of the Library Book Sale.
Members of the Friends of the Library, and anyone who wishes to join the Friends ($15 individual membership, $25 family and $100 lifetime), will be able to shop on Friday evening. The doors will open at 6 p.m. for a potluck dinner, followed by shopping. The general public sale will be Saturday, 8 a.m.–1 p.m.
Prices for books will be the same on both days.
The advantage of becoming a Friends member (in addition to supporting your local library) is that you will get first choice of titles. Here is your price guide: hardbacks — $2; trade (large) paperbacks — $2; mass market (small) paperbacks — $1; children’s — $1; CDs and DVDs — $2; videos and cassettes — $1; puzzles — 50 cents. There may be some sets/collector’s volumes priced slightly higher.
There will also be reading-related gift merchandise such as reading journals, note cards and bookmarks for sale.
The popular Ruby Sisson Library book bags are currently sold out, but these will be available again soon at the library.
Cash and checks will be accepted. You are invited to bring a cart, a wagon, a box, or your own bags for your shopping convenience. There will be bags available at checkout as well.
This year more than 500 boxes of books will be for sale. You will find a large variety of categories, all arranged and clearly marked for your shopping convenience. With items from “art” to “yoga” and almost everything in between in the alphabet, it is likely you can find something at this sale.
If you plan to attend the potluck Friday evening, call the library, 264-2208, to let the staff know how many people to expect, and what you will be bringing. Beverages and table service will be provided.
