Registration continues for youth football, soccer

Youngsters interested in participating in this year’s youth football leagues can register by calling Lori Manzanares, league coordinator, at 749-1904 or by picking up a registration at Monograms Plus.

Flag football is scheduled to begin Aug. 22; the registration fee is $25 (scholarships are available for those in need). Flag football is open to young athletes in first through third grades, although third-graders have the option to play flag or tackle this year. Participation in flag football does not require travel and does not require a sports physical for participation.

On a related note, youths interested in tackle football can register now by calling Manzanares at 749-1904. Tackle football will start Aug. 1, but registrations will be accepted through Aug. 5. The registration fee is $85 (scholarships are available for this league, as well).

Tackle football is open to young athletes in third through sixth grades. Participation in tackle football requires travel on Saturdays and requires a birth certificate and a sports physical prior to the first practice.

Youth soccer

Youth soccer registration for children ages 5-12 will run through Friday, Aug. 12.

Registrations are available at the recreation office in Town Hall and are also available online in Adobe format through the recreation department link at

Cost is $30 per player and $15 for each additional child in the same family who participates. This year’s age divisions will be 5-6, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12.

The season will begin after Labor Day and run through early October. Games will be played Monday through Thursday. If necessary, games which are rained out will be made up on Saturdays.

When player assessment dates have been determined, all participants who register to play in the 9-10 and 11-12 divisions will be contacted with the dates, times and location.

Coaches and team sponsors for each division are needed and appreciated. Cost for sponsorship is $150, which includes sponsor’s name on team uniforms, commemorative plaque with team picture and designation in media articles.

Slogan contest

As part of its continuing campaign against littering, the Town of Pagosa Springs is inviting citizens to enter this year’s anti-litter slogan contest.

One of the town’s current anti-litter slogans is “Pick-up Pagosa Country,” but the town is interested in hearing from anyone who can offer creative alternatives.

Submissions, which should include the name and phone number of the entrant, can be dropped off at the front desk in Town Hall until 5 p.m. July 31. Submissions can also be mailed to: Slogan Contest, Town Hall, P.O. Box 1859, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147, or e-mailed to

A prize will be awarded for the winning entry, and the slogan may appear on future anti-litter signs throughout the community. For more information, call 264-4151, Ext. 232.


The Town of Pagosa Springs town is accepting tax-deductible donations to be used for the maintenance and extended operation of the pump for Pinon Lake Fountain.

Donations in any amount will be accepted at the front desk in Town Hall; checks and money orders can be made payable to Town of Pagosa Springs with “fountain” on the subject line.

For those interested in mailing a contribution, donations should be addressed “Attention: Fountain” and mailed to P.O. Box 1859, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147. If you would like to make a cash donation, please do so in person at the front desk in Town Hall.
