Youth baseball coaches and sponsors recognized

This year’s youth baseball season ended July 8, and the recreation department staff would like to recognize the coaches and sponsors for all of this year’s divisions.

We cannot overstate our thanks to all of the volunteer coaches and sponsors who once again stepped forward to ensure a successful season. Without the exemplary efforts of the volunteers listed hereafter — some of whom assumed coaching responsibilities in three divisions — administering an enjoyable program becomes nearly impossible.

In the coach-pitch division, we thank coaches Cade White, Kody Hill, Billy Cotts, Shane Bradley, Darren Lewis and Herman Gonzales.

In the 9-10 bracket, thanks go out to coaches Darren Lewis, Lisa Scott, Karen Ross, John Garcia and Matt Bowdridge.

Coaches garnering thanks in the 11- and 12-year-old division include Scott Anderson, Brooks, Lindner, Darren Lewis, Kelly Miller and Torry Hessman.

On a similar note, we thank the following sponsors for their generous contributions to the program: White’s Family Funeral Home, Pagosa Quality Flooring, Design A Sign, Rocky Mountain Physical Therapy, Cowboy Carpet Cleaning, Better Than New Upholstery, Ross Enterprises, Kristi Morelock, and Ron and Cindy Gustafson.

Equally important to the program is the support from the participants, and we would like to thank all of the players and their parents and guardians for contributing to this year’s program.

As always, thanks again to each of you for your continued sportsmanship, dedication and support.

Slogan contest

As part of its continuing campaign against littering, the Town of Pagosa Springs is inviting citizens to enter this year’s anti-litter slogan contest.

One of the town’s current anti-litter slogans is “Pick-up Pagosa Country,” but the town is interested in hearing from anyone who can offer creative alternatives.

Submissions, which should include the name and phone number of the entrant, can be dropped off at the front desk in Town Hall until 5 p.m. July 31. Submissions can also be mailed to: Slogan Contest, Town Hall, P.O. Box 1859, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147, or e-mailed to tcarosello@centurytel.net.

A prize will be awarded for the winning entry, and the slogan may appear on future anti-litter signs throughout the community. For more information, call 264-4151, Ext. 232.

Youth tennis

The July session of youth tennis continues through July 28 at the Wyndham Resorts tennis courts; all registered participants have been notified regarding practice times.

Participants must have nonmarking-soled athletic or tennis shoes. The recreation department has some racquets available, but participants are encouraged to use their own equipment.

For more information, call Dale Schwicker, program director, at 903-3119.
