Community center offers wide range of activities, programs

Looking for fun?

If you are in the mood for some fun, the Ross Aragon Community Center has activities for you.

Want to exercise or zumba, do yoga or tai chi, or play some basketball to keep you in shape?

Do you want to learn how to dance? If so, come to the center for belly dancing or folk dancing classes, and learn some new moves.

Need to get out and play, the center offers volleyball, dodgeball and pickleball.

We have activities for people of all ages. Don’t see a program you like? Ask us how to start your own free program right here at the center. We are always looking for new teachers and volunteers.

Kids activities

We have free summer activities for kids. You can play dodgeball on Tuesdays 1-3 p.m. and volleyball on Fridays 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Come to the center and have fun. Kids from 9-110 are welcome. The program will run until Aug. 26.

Free programs

Israeli Folk Dance. Dance the night away on Wednesdays from 7-9:30 p.m. in the South Conference room. Contact the center with questions, 264-4152.

Mah Jongg. Tuesdays, 1-3 p.m.

Pickleball. Pickleball is a game for all ages. Classes are Monday and Wednesday mornings, 8-10 a.m. Contact Sharon Athey, (480) 529-3748 or or Fran Brown, 884-3184, if you would like to play.

Tai Chi. No experience is necessary. Join instructors Pam Kircher and Anna O’Reilly. Classes are Wednesdays, 11 a.m.-noon. Please wear flat-soled shoes and bring water. Class is open to everyone.

Duplicate Bridge. Every Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30-10 p.m. Call Stan, 731-2217 or e-mail Stan at

Pagosa Bridge For Fun. Mondays, 12:30-4 p.m. For more information, contact the Community Center, 264-4152.

Hoopsters. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8-9 a.m. Warren and the guys are waiting for you to come out and play. The Hoopsters are a great group of guys getting out there twice a week for a good game of b-ball.

Yoga. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10-11 a.m. Tuesdays 10-11:30 a.m. Rejuvenate with us. Please bring a mat or towel. Call the center with questions, 264-4152.

Belly Dancing. We offer a beginners’ class, 1-2:30 p.m.; and an intermediate class from 2:30–3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Learn this beautiful art — it is great exercise and lots of fun. Contact Carla for more information, 731-3117.

Zumba. Dance and exercise zumba style. Mondays and Wednesdays 10:30-11:30 a.m. Contact Debbie for more information, 731-6132.

Meditation on the Breath. Relax and calm with this meditation class on Monday and Thursday 11-11:30 a.m. For more information, call the center, 264-4152.

The Ancient Art of Hand Drumming. Percussionist Carla Roberts teaches drumming every Wednesday, 3:30-4:30 p.m. This is beginner to intermediate instruction on the goblet-shaped hand drum. Call the center for more information, 264-4152.

Dodgeball. Whether you have played a little or a lot, come on over and play dodge ball, for kids 9 and up. Teams will be split by age groups. Tuesdays 1-3 p.m., call the center for more information, 264-4152.

Volleyball. Open court volleyball, Fridays, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Ages 9 and up and all skill levels welcome. Call the center for more information, 264-4152.

The Ross Aragon Community Center has the space you are looking for. We have reasonably priced rooms to meet your event needs. Our rates range from $6 to $72 per hour. Room sizes for 20, 40, 50, 90 or 500 people.

The community center hours are Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday by appointment only.
