St. Patrick’s Shamrock Festival preparations in full swing

Members of St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church are actively preparing for their annual Shamrock Festival, scheduled for Aug. 12 and 13.

This year’s festival includes a Friday night kickoff event on Aug. 12, featuring a gala wine and cheese auction preview and a one-act play reading by members of the board of Music Boosters. This will be a delightful event benefiting the work that Music Boosters is doing on behalf of arts programs in the public schools. The evening will offer the public an opportunity to see the auction items early and make pre-auction bids, enjoy delicious hors d’oeuvres, wine and beer, and witness the amazing talents of the people behind the scenes in Music Boosters.

On Saturday, Aug. 13, a huge garage sale on the back lawn of the church will provide some terrific gently used items for sale at greatly discounted prices. The Book Nook will also be open, selling a wide variety of used books, CDs and videos at almost giveaway prices. That evening, a dinner under the tent will be serenaded by Lead Foot Ruthie, a local folk music band led by Mark DeVoti. The drawing for the gorgeous handmade Shamrock Quilt will take place at the dinner. Raffle tickets for the quilt are on sale now. The evening will conclude with the auction, filled with some fabulous items that will be sure to delight men and women alike.

All the money raised from the Shamrock Festival goes to support local non-profit organizations who reach out to assist members of our community. “This is a wonderful annual full-community event,” says Fr. Doug Neel, rector of St. Patrick’s. “We as a church community appreciate the participation of the greater Pagosa community as we work together to assist those in need. By joining hands with others who care and want to help, we can do amazing things,” he said.
