The Archuleta County Board of County Commissioners voted in a special meeting Tuesday to award the 2011 Pavement Preservation contract to Elam Construction.
Only two bids were received by the June 2 deadline to perform the crack sealing, patching and either chip or slurry sealing for the year.
The primary area of work for the program will be South Pagosa Boulevard and Meadows Drive, as well as other smaller roads in the area.
Because the bids came in under budget, the BoCC approved two add alternates to the program, meaning additional work will be completed on Pinon Causeway (Add A) and a section of North Pagosa Boulevard from Park Avenue to Monument Avenue (Add B).
Elam’s total bid was $1,059,510.47 — a base bid of $861,248, Add A bid of 29,567.64 and an Add B bid of $168,693.97.
Four Corners Materials, the only other bidder, submitted a total bid of $1,366,534.10 — a base bid of $1,094,782.30, Add A bid of $29,777.80 and an Add B bid of $241,974.
Public Works Director Ken Feyen said Elam would hopefully mobilize in early July after the final contract requirements (bonds, signatures) are in place.
Feyen said the crack sealing and patching efforts will be completed then, 30 days later, either slurry or chip sealing will be done on the roadways.
Feyen estimated a total project time of 90-120 days.
