At the age of 75, Fermin Villarreal was called home to be with the Lord on May 18, 2011. He was a lifetime resident of Pagosa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Emilia Villarreal, and his loving wife, Cecilia Villarreal. He is survived by his children Arthur and Cathy Villarreal, Carlos and Sidelia Valenzuela, Chris and Lisa McKaughan, Nicholas Villarreal and Fermin Y. Villarreal Jr., all of Pagosa Springs. By his grandchildren, J.D. Elledge, Jessie Elledge, Frank and Kaitlyn Villarreal, Timothy Elledge and Breana Richardson, Lonnie Elledge, Anthony Villarreal, Luis Sauzameda and Chantell Elledge, Allan VanNess, Daniel Villarreal, Servando Ramos, Dustin McKaughan, Joseph McKaughan, Mathew, Dazia, Angel and Rachael Villarreal and eight great-grandchildren. By his sisters Dora Manzanares of Pagosa, Florinda Riss of Aztec N.M., Della Svejcara of Farmington N.M., Alice Francis of California, and Madeline Martinez of California. And by numerous nieces and nephews.
His passions were his family, riding his horses in the parades, fishing, hunting, dancing, the outdoors, the Denver Broncos and BINGO. An active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, his community, and the Colorado Mounted Rangers, Mr. Villarreal was always willing to help anyone in need. His family and friends love him and his sense of humor, his beautiful smile, smirks and how he would laugh at his own “off the wall jokes.” He will be dearly missed by all and will always be in our hearts.
