As part of its continuing anti-litter campaign, the town is inviting local youngsters over the age of 10 to enter this year’s anti-litter slogan contest.
One of the town’s current anti-litter slogans is’“Pick-up Pagosa Country,” but the town is interested in hearing from youths who can offer creative alternatives.
Submissions, which should include the name and phone number of the entrant, can be dropped off at the front desk in Town Hall until 5 p.m. May 31. Submissions can also be mailed to: Slogan Contest, Town Hall, P.O. Box 1859, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147, or e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
A prize will be awarded for the winning entry, and the slogan may appear on future anti-litter signs throughout the community. For more information, call 264-4151, Ext. 232.
The Pagosa Springs Recreation Department is offering youth tennis instruction this summer, thanks again to cooperation on behalf of Wyndham Resorts.
The program, which is in its fifth year, is open to youths ages 8-12. The program will consist of two monthly sessions, one in June and one in July, and will be conducted at the Wyndham tennis courts. Each session will be comprised of two, two-hour practices per week. The tentative plan is to have players ages 8-10 meet Tuesdays and Thursdays 1 p.m.-3 p.m.; players ages 11-12 will meet Mondays and Wednesdays 1 p.m.-3 p.m.
Registrations are available at the recreation office and will be accepted through May 30 for the June session. Registrations are also available through a link on the recreation department page at www.townofpagosasprings.com.
Cost to participate is $30 per monthly session. Participants must have no marking-soled athletic or tennis shoes. The recreation department may have some racquets available, but participants are encouraged to purchase and use their own equipment.
For more information, call Dale Schwicker, program instructor, at 903-3119 or the recreation office at 264-4151, Ext. 232.
Rosters for the coach-pitch division have been finalized and rosters for the 9-10 and 11-12 division are pending.
On a related note, there is still a need for at least one coach in the 9-10 division and one coach in the 11-12 division. Anyone interested in becoming a coach should call the recreation office at 264-4151, Ext. 231 or 232.
Games in all divisions are tentatively scheduled to begin in early June; the season will run through early July.
