Wrestle the World Training Camp features top-caliber staff

The annual Wrestle the World Training Camp will take place May 30-June 3 at Pagosa Springs High School.

The purpose of the camp is to develop skills in the sport of wrestling for athletes high school age and younger.

Conditioning and instructional sessions each morning are followed by competition in the afternoons and evenings.

Numerous teams from around the Four Corners area enroll in the camp to receive coaching instruction from one of the nation’s premier wrestling coaches, Terry Brands, from the University of Iowa. Brands is well known in the wrestling community for winning two NCAA titles, two World Championships and a bronze medal in the 2000 Olympic Games.

In addition to Coach Brands, this year’s coaching staff will include Anatoly Petrosyan, member of the Olympic Training Center coaching staff for the past 17 years. Petrosyan was brought up and trained in the former Soviet Union system and thus he brings in a unique and valuable perspective on athlete development and training.

Also scheduled to assist Coach Brands in the camp will be members of the 2010-11 team from the University of Iowa, including NCAA All American Luke Lofthouse, Ethan Lofthouse, Matt Ballweg, and Pagosa Springs graduate Joe DuCharme. Pagosa Springs graduates Michael Martinez, University of Wyoming, and Daren Hockett, Western State College, will also be in attendance as assistants.

The camp is open to all local athletes including youth. Contact head wrestling coach Dan Janowsky (264-4554) for more information.
