Car show and RiverFest highlight the weekend in Pagosa

It’s that time of year when we hope for great weather, block off Lewis Street and line up those colorful cars and detailed motorcycles,

It’s time for the third annual San Juan River Rod Run Car and Motorcycle Show.

Vehicles will start arriving on Friday evening, May 20, and the owners will gather for a participants’ reception at the Pagosa Lodge.

The Show & Shine will take place starting at 9 a.m. on May 21 on historic Lewis Street, with vehicles on display from the Bear Creek Saloon to 4th Street. There will be delicious food stations and some craft vendors to complement the show. There will be everything from burgers and dogs to barbecue, and that tasty fry bread and the burritos provided by Immaculate Heart of Mary Church members. The Classic Pilsner craft beer prepared by Pagosa Brewing Company especially for this show will also be released this weekend.

Live music will be provided by The Killens and the tunes will contribute to livening up the street show.

This year there will be a “People’s Choice” award given out, so please make sure you visit the show and take the opportunity to vote for your favorite vehicle. Awards will be handed out starting around 2 p.m. and the show should conclude at about 3.. Special groups such as Abate of Colorado D-19 will also be on hand for the motorcycle enthusiasts and Skills USA for the youth contingent.

After the car show, or even during the car show, stay downtown and wander down to Town Park to enjoy the Rapids & Rhythms RiverFest. The event begins around 10 a.m. on Saturday with a whitewater rodeo and river races. The day will be include live music and a beer garden as well. The river is certainly rising and running fast, so the rodeo and races should be quite exciting. It will be fun to go to both events and enjoy the downtown area with two fun festivals and lots of great businesses in between. Admission to both events are free

The Springs Resort and Spa will host a beer tasting at the fountain by the EcoLuxe with beers from Ska Brewing and Breckenridge. The cost is $5 and there will be entertainment by David Richter. The gathering lasts from 3-6 p.m. on Saturday.

On Sunday, May 22, head over to Plaza Grille for another look at the cars as the owners gather for a few more awards and get ready to start their cruise to Treasure Falls. There will be a delicious breakfast served and awards such as the People’s Choice and Participant’s Choice as well as the Golden Odometer (for the car that made the longest trip to the event) will be handed out. The participants will then trundle out to Treasure Falls, then head home or return to spend a little more time in Pagosa.

This is your only opportunity this year to catch a glimpse of these stunning cars and motorcycles.
