Destination Imagination creativity extends to fund-raising

Pagosa Springs is getting a reputation for smart, creative kids throughout Colorado in Destination Imagination.

As one state Destination Imagination official said, “What do you do in Pagosa Springs during the winter? Just Destination Imagination?”

According to the Destination Imagination website, more than 100,000 students across the U.S. and more than 30 countries, learn and experience creativity, teamwork and problem solving through Destination Imagination each year. Now it is time for the Pagosa Springs students who qualified for their Global Final competition in Nashville to test their creativity and raise approximately $10,000 per team to attend.

To help them raise the money, teams have launched the following fundraising activities:

• Saturday, May 7, 11 3 p.m. at McDonald’s, the elementary DI team, the Smartalics, will sell chocolate roses perfect for Mother’s Day. You can also get your and your family’s picture taken against a custom Mother’s Day backdrop created by the elementary school Destination ImagiNation team kids. Our team will then create a custom photo e-card with?a Mother’s Day theme that we will email to you and you can email to your mom. Suggested donation is $10.? We can also shoot a short video of you wishing your Mom a happy Mother’s Day and post that onto a private link on YouTube. Suggested donation is $20.

• Aspen trees. The high school team, the Backtrackers, harvested aspen trees and are selling them for just $25. Contact Susan Kuhns at Riverside Health Practices, 264-2218, to order one.

• Saturday, May 14, there will be a bake sale at City Market. Purchase a delicious homemade baked item from the Smartalics from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• Wednesday, May 18. Musical Extravaganza at Nello’s Bistro. Several of our talented local musicians will hold a concert at Nello’s. Suggested $5 donation. Drink specials and amazing entertainment!

Other fund-raising activities are being planned, so be on the lookout. Come out and support our youth at one of the upcoming fund-raisers. Teams are also accepting donations. Tax-deductible donations can be made to “Pagosa Destination Imagination” and dropped off at the Pagosa Springs Middle School with Linda Gundelach. If you have a specific team in mind, you can add that to the memo.
