LASSO to host free horse seminar

A free horse seminar, Horse 101, will be presented by LASSO on Saturday, May 7. This special event, open to the public, will be held in the Extension Building at the Archuleta County Fairgrounds at 10 a.m.

Local equine veterinarians will address many issues of interest to those who own horses, are thinking of buying or fostering a horse, or want the latest information about horses.

Dr. Ben Hufnagel will speak on podiatry, the care and treatment of the horse’s feet. Dr. Dwight Hooton will share some of his knowledge of using alternative medicine and Dr. Greg Schick will do a colic workup. In addition, two-star Parelli trainer Petra Christensen will speak on issues related to safe and confident riding.

While there, you’ll be able to pick up some goodies at the used tack sale.

LASSO is an approved 501(c)(3) organization that works with individuals and law enforcement agencies to provide assistance, refuge and medical treatment for large animals that are found to be suffering from abuse, neglect or injury. As part of our community involvement, LASSO engages local youth in therapeutic riding and hosts the Special Olympics Riding event annually.

Come join us at the seminar and tune up your “horse smarts.”
