Spring is here, it’s time for a dance

It is next week.

Our Cinco de Mayo Dance and Concert will be held at the Ross Aragon Community Center Friday, May 6, from 7 p.m. to midnight.

Doors open at 6 p.m. The dance will feature the music of Perfeccion de Chimayo, a great band from Chimayo, N.M. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear a great band right here in Pagosa. Listen to a little Spanish music, oldies, country and classic rock, while you dance and enjoy a cash bar.

Food will be available from the Flying Burrito. There will be a jumpy house and face painting for the kids.

The event will be fun for all ages: 12 and under are admitted free; 13-18, $5 or $10 at the door; adult tickets are $10 or $15 at the door. Come have the time of your life at the community center with great music, great food and great friends.

Boxing Night

Here’s an event for kids of all ages, from 8 to adult. Pagosa Springs vs. Bayfield at the community center Friday at 7 p.m. Fighters will be matched by age and weight. Winners will receive a T-shirt. Admission is free, and light concessions will be available.

Free programs

Israeli folk dance. Come dance the night away on Wednesdays from 7-9:30 p.m. in the South Conference room. Contact the center with questions, 264-4152.

Boxing class. Coach Monte Lane has classes on Wednesday, 3:45-5 p.m. and Friday, 1:45-3:45 p.m.; times are subject to change. Contact Monte at (936) 524-9557 or the community center at 264-4152.

Scrapbook Club. The group will meet the second Saturday of the month. Kathy Ruth is your contact person; call her at 264-2853.

Mah Jongg. Tuesdays, 1-3 p.m. Call the center with any questions, 264-4152.

Pickleball. Pickleball is a game for all ages. Classes are Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, 8-10 a.m. Contact Sharon Athey, (480) 529-3748 or shathey@yahoo.com or Fran Brown, (970) 884-3184, if you would like to play.

Tai Chi. No experience is necessary. Join instructors Pam Kircher and Anna O’Reilly. Classes are Fridays, 11 a.m.-noon. Please wear flat-soled shoes and bring water. Class is open to everyone.

Dance for Health. Wednesdays, 10-11:30 a.m. The use of yogic awareness, ballet/jazz/modern dance technique adds fun to create a full body workout. Class is geared to the older adult, but we are open to everyone. Wear loose, comfortable clothing; bring a mat and large towel or throw, and let your inner dancer free!

Hoopsters. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8-9 a.m. Warren and the guys are waiting for you to come out and play. The Hoopsters are a great group of guys getting out there twice a week for a good game of b-ball.

Yoga. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10-11:30 a.m. and Fridays, 9:30-10:30 a.m. Rejuvenate with us. Please bring a mat or towel. Call the center with questions, 264-4152.

Belly dancing. We offer a beginners’ class from 2-3:30 p.m. and an intermediate class from 3:30-5 p.m. on Wednesday. Come learn this beautiful art, it is great exercise and lots of fun. Contact Carla for more information, 731-3117.

Zumba. Dance and exercise zumba style, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m.- noon. Contact Debbie for more information, 731-6132.

Meditation on the Breath. Relax and be calm at this meditation class on Monday and Thursday 11-11:30 a.m. For more information, call the center at 264-4152.

The Ross Aragon Community Center has the space you are looking for. We have reasonably priced rooms to meet your event needs. Our rates range from $6 to $72 per hour. Room sizes for 20, 40, 50, 90 or 500 people.

The community center hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday by appointment only.
