Friday deadline for entries to student art show

There is one day left to submit entries to the Pagosa springs Arts Council’s annual Advanced Art Students’ Exhibit.

PSAC welcomes submittals from independent studies and home-schooled students ages 12-18 who wish to participate in the exhibit. Public high school and junior high students shoiuld contact their art teachers if theywish to participate. Deadline for submissions is Friday, April 29. There is minimal charge of $5 per student for entering this exhibit and three pieces of artwork per student maximum. All pieces must be matted and ready to hang.

The exhibit will open with an artists’ reception May 6 and run through May 20.

Youth art classes

We are offering the spring/summer addition of Youth Art Classes ,open to the public and especially home-schooled students who are in need of art in their curriculum. For more information call Estudio Y Galeria at 264-1007.

Plein Air Painter’s Club

Come join us painting out in nature. No dues, just fun. We meet the second Wednesday of the month at 10 a.m. The location will be announced each month in this Artsline column. In May, the Plein Air Club will meet at the far end of Echo Lake from U.S. 84. If the weather is bad, we will meet there and give directions to the backup indoor location.

PSAC exhibit schedule

This year, some of our local galleries and businesses have graciously offered to hold exhibits, providing new, fresh, environments for showcasing the work of Pagosa’s talented artists. Following is the lineup for 2011.

May 6-May 20: Advanced Art Student Exhibit,hosted by Estudio Y Galleria.

June 17-July 28: Eighth annual Juried Exhibit: A Regional Art Competition, hosted by Lantern Dancer.

July 29-Sept. 8: Pagosa As Art, hosted by The Wildflower.

Sept. 9-Oct. 20: Artist Challenge: Kinetic Art, hosting location to be determined.

Oct. 21-Dec. 1: Contemporary Exhibit, hosted by Wild Spirit Gallery.

Dec. 2-3: Tiny Treasures fund-raiser, hosted by The Artist Within.

Additional events on the schedule are: Golden Retriever Roundup June 24 and 25 and the Artists’ Studio and Gallery Tour October 7, 8 and 9.

Photo Club

The Photography Club meets the second Wednesday of each month during the club year from September through May at 6 p.m. Photography enthusiasts are welcome to attend at no charge for the first meeting. Any and all are invited to join for annual dues of $20 for single individuals and $30 for family membership. For more information, contact club president T.J. PSAC office

PSAC is now located in the new Estudio Y Galeria at 84 Gold Mine Drive (near Pagosa Mountain Home Furniture). Our winter hours are Tuesdays from noon-4. We are here to assist your arts needs and from now on we will be fully operational. Since the office is not staffed on a daily basis, voice mail and e-mail will be checked regularly, so please leave a message and someone will get back to you as soon as possible. Join the PSAC

Started in 1988 the Pagosa Springs Arts Council, a non-profit organization, was conceived and developed to, in part, promote the awareness of the vast array of local artistic talent, provide educational and cultural activities in the community, sponsor exhibits and workshops by local and regional, and encourage and support continued appreciation and preservation of the aesthetic beauty of Pagosa Springs.

If you would like to join the Pagosa Springs Arts Council, mail your name, address, phone number and e-mail address to PSAC, P.O. Box 533, and Pagosa Springs, CO 81147. You will also need to enclose a check payable to PSAC for the membership rate of your choice.

Membership rates are: Youth-$15; Individual Senior-$25; Individual Regular-$30; Family Senior-$40; Family Regular-$45; Business-$80; Patron-$250; Benefactor-$500, Director-$1,000 and Guarantor-$2,500 and up. The senior age requirement is 65-plus.
