Colorful hanging baskets beautify Pagosa

The Chamber’s annual Summer Hanging Basket/Beautify Pagosa program has kicked off with the ordering of these beautiful arrangements.

There will again be two sizes of baskets to choose from: 12 inches and the large 16-inch moss baskets. Included in your order is fertilizer and delivery service of the baskets by staff or a Chamber board member.

The cost of the 12-inch basket will be $27 and the 16-inch baskets will be $89 each.

You can obtain an order form at the Chamber — just call us and we can take your order over the phone, or we can e-mail or fax you an order form.

There has been a limited number of baskets of each size ordered, so don’t miss out on your chance to obtain our specially made baskets; they are colorful and guaranteed to beautify your porch or business.

Thank you again to Pagosa Feed & Nursery for the colorful 12-inch baskets and Bayfield Gardens for the stunning 16-inch baskets. We expect baskets to be delivered on Friday, May 27.

Don’t be fooled

There has been a recent alert sent out by the Colorado Secretary of State’s office notifying Colorado businesses of a possibly deceptive solicitation issued by a company calling themselves “Corporate Controllers Unit.”

This entity has mailed solicitations to businesses in Colorado titled “Periodic Report.” These solicitations offer to process periodic reports with the Secretary of State’s office on behalf of the business for a $225 fee. While the majority of entities doing business in Colorado are required to file periodic reports with the Secretary of State’s office, the filing can be completed directly with the Secretary of State’s office and in most cases the fee is merely $10.

Although the solicitations contain disclaimers such as, “This product or service has not been approved or endorsed by any Government Agency and this offer is not being made by an agency of the Government,” the solicitation is creating confusion in the business arena.

The state is encouraging business owners to review their entity’s record and, if necessary, to file any needed reports online at

As mentioned in a Chamber article last year, you should also register your business with the Secretary of State to receive notifications should any unauthorized persons try to access your account and to receive notifications of potential scams that might be occurring in the state.

If you have any questions about filing reports or this notification, contact the Chamber.

Business to Business Expo

More businesses just signed up this week to be represented at the Business to Business Expo to be held on Friday, May 13, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the Pagosa Lodge.

Business owners and managers interested in displaying their wares, services or products are encouraged to attend. For only $25 for a booth, you can let other businesses know what services you have available. If you are looking for services such as insurance, graphic or website design, credit card processing, wholesale product sales, office equipment sales and rental, business advice and so much more, you should attend and discover the products and services Pagosa has to offer.

There will be time for each owner to talk about his or her business and what they have to offer. The event is free. There will be door prizes, an hors d’oeuvres reception with a cash bar, and a celebration for those businesses that took the time and made the effort to apply for the Town Tax Rebate Credit Program.

This event will be fast paced, fun and very informative. To register for the show, contact the Chamber or check your last newsletter for a registration form. We look forward to seeing the public and representatives of local businesses. It is more important now than ever to keep your dollars in our community.

‘Colored Chords’

The Pagosa Springs High School and Wild Spirit Gallery join forces to highlight the musical youth in our schools.

The Americana Project presents “Colored Chords” on Thursday, April 21. For only $25 you can attend this musical evening at Wild Spirit Gallery beginning at 6 p.m. The ticket price includes food from Degelman’s, dessert by Sugar High, and beer and wine.

There will be guitars at the gallery that were donated, then decorated by Pagosa artisans. I had a sneak preview and I can tell you these guitars are stunning! The guitars will be on the silent auction block and would make a beautiful and stimulating addition to any home as an art piece. Several of the youth involved in the Americana Project will perform.

Proceeds from the event will go toward purchase of recording equipment and instruments, and to pay guest artists who will come and talk to the students about Americana music. This is an elective music program at the high school.

Tickets are available at Wild Spirit Gallery, Kip’s Grill and Switchback, or at the door. For more information, call the gallery at 264-9453 or e-mail
