The Pagosa Springs recreation office is seeking volunteers interested in assisting with this year’s “Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs” program.
The program consists of four-hour sessions and is tentatively scheduled to be held Mondays in June at Lake Forest. The sessions typically cover a variety of basic fishing topics, including species identification, casting, knot tying, fly fishing, and catch and release techniques.
With the assistance of the Promoting Prevention Coalition, Pagosa Springs Parks and Recreation Departments and Pagosa Lakes Property Owners Association, up to 25 children ages 8-13 can participate in this educational outdoor experience.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age; mandatory background checks are required. Fishing experience is preferred, but not required.
If interested in learning more about becoming a volunteer for this program, please contact Tom Carosello at 264-4151, Ext. 232.
Adult basketball schedules are available at the recreation office in Town Hall and can be downloaded through the recreation department link at www.townofpagosasprings.com.
Managers are reminded that team registration fees are $200 per team, plus a $25 fee per player. Team and player fees are due at the start of each team’s second game. Also, numbered jerseys of similar color are required attire for participation in this year’s leagues.
Rosters may carry as many as 15 players; players are eligible to participate if they were 16 years of age or older as of March 1. Players may be added to the roster at any time throughout the season, but participants who have not paid the player fee before the start of their second game will not be permitted to play. The season will run through late April.
Call the recreation office at 264-4151, Ext. 231, for more information.
