Black Box Theater grand opening announced

On April 15, the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts  (PSCA) will mark the opening of the 150-seat Black Box Theater with live musical performances, cocktails and dining and a performance by critically acclaimed actor Christopher Willard in the Broadway favorite, “Fully Committed.”

The grand opening events include PSCA details for future productions and attractions as well as gallery exhibits from Pagosa and regional artists.

“The Black Box Theater is a flexible theatrical space intended to nurture local and national artists. In addition to the Center’s resident companies and their productions, the Center will present regional and national performers,” said Laura Moore, executive director of the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts. “People can expect to see cabaret, dance, comedy and drama. The theater is an extraordinary addition to the Center. I’m especially eager to utilize the Black Box Theater for emerging artists, performers in the early stages of their careers. Opening Night presents an amazing opportunity to join us as we unveil this intimate arts venue.”

Conceived as a flexible “black box” theater, the multiple configurations are ideal for intimate performances. The theater has four seating/stage configurations: cabaret, proscenium, round and thrust. The flexibility provides resident companies the ability to stage concerts and theatrical productions. Additionally, the theater will be used as support and rehearsal space for the 250 seat proscenium theater scheduled for future construction.

The Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts, which is located at 2313 Eagle Drive in Pagosa Springs, includes several venues: the Black Box Theatre hosting music, theatre and dance performances, a visual art gallery, and the Gallery Hall. The Gallery Hall will act as a multi-use gallery and education center by day and an event venue by night.
