Pagosa Springs Youth Wrestling is still accepting registration for its youth wrestling program.
The program runs April 7. The registration fee is $10 per individual or $15 per family. Funds will be used to purchase T-shirts and awards.
All practices will be supervised by high school coach Dan Janowsky, along with the high school coaching staff and parent volunteers. Practices are held for two elementary age groups:
• First- and second-graders practice Monday and Thursday evenings from 5-5:45 p.m. in the elementary school multi-purpose room.
• Athletes in grades three and four will practice Monday and Thursdays from 3:15-4:45 p.m., also in the elementary multi-purpose room. Elementary school students can report to the multi-purpose room immediately after school on the appropriate days.
The sport of wrestling is widely known to have many benefits in the realm of physical fitness, self-discipline and confidence. The Pagosa Youth Wrestling Program’s goal is to introduce the sport of wrestling to youngsters in an intramural format. Practices are structured toward developing general athletic skills, improving coordination and fitness, getting used to contact and learning basic wrestling holds and concepts.
While there are competitive wrestling games and situations performed in practice, every attempt is made to group kids appropriately by size, skill, age and temperament. The program is beneficial in developing coordination and confidence and allowing young children to enjoy exercise and healthy competition. It is designed to make all successful.
Interested parents can register their child at practice and enrollment and registration is kept open through the early season.
