The annual pancake supper celebrating “Shrove Tuesday”” will be held at St. Patrick’s Church, 225 South Pagosa Blvd., on Tuesday, March 8.
The all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage supper with orange juice and coffee will be served from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. The cost is $5 for individuals over 12 years of age and $3 for children under age 12.
Shrove Tuesday is a term associated in English-speaking countries, especially the United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and parts of the United States for the day preceding Ash Wednesday, the first day of the season of fasting and prayer called Lent.
Pancakes and doughnuts are associated with the day preceding Lent because they were a way to use up rich foodstuffs such as eggs, milk and sugar before the fasting season of the 40 days of Lent.
All members of the community are encouraged to attend the supper.
