Lifelong resident Irene M. Gomez died Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, in Pagosa Springs, Colo. She was 94.
Mrs. Gomez was born to Henry and Sara Chavez in Frances, Colo.
Mrs. Gomez was a loving homemaker who loved her family dearly. Some of her favorite hobbies included cooking, sewing, gardening and talking about life experiences.
Mrs. Gomez was preceded in death by her husband, Malequias Gomez; sons Leroy and Sevedeo Gomez; daughter Priscilla Martinez; sisters Beatrice Rivas, Flora Barbo and Maria Aragon; and brothers Desiedro and Simon Chavez.
She is survived by her sister, Andrea Ochoa, of Pagosa Springs; daughters Virginia and Teresa Gomez of Pagosa Springs, Nora Saavedra (Nick) of Albuquerque, N.M., Edulia Martinez (Margarito) of Ignacio, Soraida Garcia (Benjamin) of Tucson, Ariz., and Tina Briceno (Carlos) of Portland, Ore.; 19 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Pagosa Springs. A mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at Pope John Paul II Catholic Church, also in Pagosa Springs. Burial will take place afterward at Rosa Cemetery.
