Special Olympic athletes snowshoe around Pagosa Country on Saturday mornings and ski up at Wolf Creek on Sundays through February. Volunteers help with the winter sports and Wolf Creek Ski Area and Pagosa Ski Rentals are wonderful supporters of the team. Jody McAlister is our volunteer head coach.
Snowshoeing takes place at Town Park, Reservoir Hill and the National Forest. The Special Talents class at Pagosa Springs High School also works with the athletes as part of their curriculum to continue to gain skills and confidence in the outdoors. This Special Olympic program is wonderful, not only for school aged children beginning at age 8, but also for those that have graduated and can continue in the program.
