Over the past several years, the successful music and theater programs at the high school have consistently grown in size and scope, resulting in a current choir class of approximately 70 students, classes in concert band, jazz band, a drama club of over 30, and a new curriculum added — the Americana class — with a waiting list of potential musicians.
This growth has resulted in new possibilities, new choices, and new learning opportunities for our high school performers.
The music and theater departments are proud and excited to announce the selection of this year’s spring musical, “Les Miserables,” a classic and challenging production and the longest running Broadway show, based on the novel by Victor Hugo with orchestrations by John Cameron.
The musical will incorporate a cast and crew of about 60, musicians numbering in the 20s and dozens and dozens of community volunteers and high school performing arts supporters.
The time is right for “Les Mis” to be introduced to Pagosa.
Auditions are open to all area high school students and will be held on stage in the auditorium on Jan. 20 and 21.
Students auditioning should be prepared to sing one verse of a song, read from script, and participate in a group dance. There is a sign-up sheet posted outside the high school band room for interested students. We are also looking for students to work backstage crew.
