Patrick Martin Baird was born in Bakersfield, Calif., on Sept. 29, 1941, and passed away on Dec. 4, 2010, in Seligman, Ariz., traveling on his way to Bakersfield.
He attended Bakersfield High School before joining the United States Navy. He served honorably in the Navy for two years and then continued to serve his country with the United States Postal Service in a career that lasted over 30 years.
After retiring from the USPS in 2004, he moved with his wife, Diana, to Pagosa Springs, but they often returned as snowbirds to winter in Bakersfield.
He is survived by two children, Patrick Martin Baird, Jr. and Wendy Ann-Marie Baird; two grandchildren, Kathryn Ann-Marie Barger and Brittany Baird; and two great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind the love of his life, Diana Rue Baird, his spouse of over 33 years. He will be remembered fondly by extended family members and many friends. Services will be held Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at noon at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building at 9900 White Oak Road. Following the memorial services, Patrick will be interred at the Bakersfield National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the American Heart Association in Patrick’s name to honor his battle with heart disease.
There will be a memorial service in Pagosa Springs next spring, with the date announced prior to the service.
