Christmas shows to boxing class — it’s all at the center

The Ross Aragon Community Center and Elation Center for the Arts are proud to present, “A Classic Christmas” concert Friday at 6 p.m.

We have great entertainers waiting to put you in the holiday spirit. Tickets are available for $10 in advance and $12 at the door. You can purchase tickets at Higher Grounds Coffee and the community center.

Be sure to get your tickets to what is sure to be a wonderful evening of great entertainment in the spirit of the season.

And in the spirit of Christmas, we are asking you to donate a canned good to be distributed to our area food banks.

Have you have ever been interested in boxing?

The center has just the class for you. Coach Monte Lane has trained over 5,000 amateur and professional boxers over the last 21 years, ages five to adult. He has promoted and coordinated over 75 amateur boxing events at high schools, fairgrounds and other locations. He has coached state and national teams in the Golden Gloves, Junior Olympics, Silver Gloves and other tournaments. He has trained and coached 10 national and professionally ranked boxers.

He worked at his family gym in Texas, which opened in the 1940s. He has four uncles who fought professionally, and his uncle, Roy Harris, fought Floyd Patterson for the heavyweight title in 1958. He has trained boys and girls, including two homecoming queens.

So if you’re a kid, or a kid at heart, come to the center and fill out the required forms and meet Monte. Classes will be held Thursdays, 3:45-5 p.m., and Fridays, 1:45-4 p.m. Times are subject to change. You can contact Monte at (936) 524-9557 or the community center at 264-4152.

Small Fries Play Group. This play group is designed for kids 18 months to 3 years old and will meet every Wednesday from 9:45-11 a.m. at the center. Other ages are welcome as well. We will offer light arts and crafts followed by play in the gym. Bring your bikes, scooters and tricycles to ride. The center will provide other physical fitness games focusing on developing the large motor skills. Come join in all the fun this winter and meet other Pagosa moms and dads and their children in this relaxed atmosphere. Plan on supervising your children while they are at the play group. Scrapbook Club. The group will meet the second Saturday of the month. Kathy Ruth will be your contact person. Please call her for all information, 264-2853. The group does more than just scrapbooking; there is also card making. Give Kathy a call; she would love to hear from you.

Computer Class. Becky Herman teaches beginning computer class, the basics. If you would like to take the eight-week course, contact Becky at 264-2171. The course is set to begin in January. You must register to take classes.

Pickleball. Pickleball is a game for all ages. Classes are Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9-11 a.m. Contact Sharon Athey, 731-1719, (480) 529-3748 or, and Fran Brown, 884-3184, if you would like to play.

Tai Chi. No experience is necessary; join instructors Pam Kircher and Anna O’Reilly. Classes are Friday from 11 a.m.-noon. Please wear flat-soled shoes and bring water. Class is open to everyone.

Dance for Health Class. Wednesdays 10-11:30 a.m. The use of yogic awareness, ballet/jazz/modern dance technique adds fun to create a full body workout. Class is geared to the older adult, but we are open to everyone. Wear loose, comfortable clothing; bring a mat and large towel or throw, and let your inner dancer free.

Duplicate Bridge. Every Friday noon-4 p.m. and Tuesday 5:30-10 p.m. Call Stan at 731-2217, or e-mail him at

Hoopsters. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8-9 a.m. The Hoopsters are a great group of guys getting out there twice a week for a good game of b-ball. Join them. Warren will be happy you did — he plays well with others.

Yoga. Tuesdays, 10-11:30 a.m. are class hours, please bring a mat or towel. Come and rejuvenate at the best spot in town.

The Ross Aragon Community Center has the space you are looking for. We have reasonably-priced rooms to meet your event needs. Our rates range from $6 to $72 per hour. Room sizes for 20, 40, 50, 90 or 500 people.

The community center hours are Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
