Last chance to register for youth basketball

Monday is the deadline to register for this year’s 9- and 10-year-old and 11- and 12-year-old youth basketball leagues.

Children who will be 9, 10, 11 or 12 years old as of Jan. 1, 2011, are eligible to register. The seasons will not begin until early January.

Registrations are available at the recreation office in Town Hall and are also available online in Adobe format at (click on the town departments link, then the recreation link). Registrations have also been supplied to local schools; parents are reminded to return completed registrations to the recreation office.

Cost is $30 per player and $15 for each additional child in the same, immediate family who participates. Checks and money orders should be made payable to Town of Pagosa Springs.

Coaches and team sponsors for these divisions are needed and appreciated. Cost for sponsorship is $150, which includes sponsor’s name on team uniforms, commemorative plaque with team picture and recognition in media articles.

For more information call 264-4151, Ext. 231 or 232.

Cross country skiing

Once enough snow falls, the Town of Pagosa Springs will again be able to provide quality cross country skiing opportunities this winter, thanks to the efforts of the Pagosa Nordic Club.

Throughout the winter, these generous volunteers will be undertaking the grooming of cross-country skiing trails in the downtown area for the use of our citizens and visitors.

The trails will be located at Yamaguchi Park on South 5th Street, on Reservoir Hill, and at the athletics field in Town Park on Hermosa Street. Access to the Reservoir Hill trails is from San Juan Street, adjacent to the Spa Motel, or from Spring Street, which heads up the hill from the south side of the Post Office off Hot Springs Blvd.

Other cross-country trails groomed by this group are located at a variety of locations around the area. Information regarding those trails, as well as grooming reports and trail conditions, is available at the club’s website,
