Jim was born in Show Low, Ariz., on Sept. 27, 1965. He was killed while on active duty in Afghanistan by a roadside bomb on Dec. 2, 2010 (Afghan time). Jim was a Sgt. 1st Class with the 118 Sappers of the Utah National Guard.
At age three, Jim and his family moved to Tucson, Ariz., where he graduated from Catalina High School and the University of Arizona.
Jim was a sergeant on the Farmington, N.M., police department, where he served for 14 years. He was awarded supervisor of the year in 2009.
Jim is survived by his wife Carlotta, daughter Ashley and son Thomas, all of Kirtland, N.M.; his mother Eve and stepfather Ron Taylor, of Pagosa Springs, Colo.; Ernest Thode (father), Mary Thode (sister), both of Tucson, Ariz.; and Olive Myers (grandmother), of Payson, Ariz.
Services will be held in Farmington at Pinon Hills Community Church, officiated by Pastor John Morgan. The time of the service is pending.
Those who served with Jim in the military and the police department respected him for his integrity, work ethic and selflessness.
