The SHY RABBIT holiday open house and group show debuted on Saturday to a large and enthusiastic audience of local and long distance art lovers.
Friends and visitors toured the 4,000 square-foot contemporary art center at their leisure, taking in all that SHY RABBIT has to offer while watching attentively as studio members worked on the potter’s wheel.
This unique contemporary art complex is located — to the surprise of many — in a former auto-repair shop, and in a wooded commercial district, on the west end of town.
SHY RABBIT houses a fine art gallery and working ceramic studio, two mixed-media workshops and rotating exhibition spaces.
The holiday group show continues through January 30, showcasing a selection of creatively crafted pottery by SHY RABBIT studio members.
These offerings include an array of ikebana containers with lovely floral arrangements, vases, bowls, and decorative lidded pots, among other items.
Featured works also include a variety of 2D and 3D works by SHY RABBIT’s highly regarded gallery artists.
A visitor made the following comment after attending the open house on Saturday:
“We enjoyed seeing you and the art on display. Great to see visitors buying art as holiday gifts!”
“I forgot to mention how much we as gallery guests are grateful for the accessibility to the gallery owners and artist while viewing the art.
“It is always such a learning experience for us — and I would venture to guess the same for others who visit Shy Rabbit — to be able to delve into the craftsmanship of the works to gain a deeper appreciation of the pieces and their creators.
“Friendships and inexperience aside, your gallery is always so welcoming — there is a feeling at SR that we have never experienced at other galleries we’ve visited.”
