Attention parents ... need some shopping time during the holidays?
During winter break, drop of your little elves at Holiday Hands-On Arts Camp, where they can create beautiful handmade Christmas crafts and gifts.
Some of the highlights for week one are: Mexican tin punch candle holder, Christmas ornaments, pine tree sculpture, and handmade gift paper with Ms. Lisa. Ms. Tessie will be “Cookin’ Up” some Christmas goodies for nibbling and for gifts. We will spread the holiday cheer and go caroling on Thursday.
Coming up for week two, we will do “Teachers’ Favorite” art projects such as making reclaimed wool sweater hats and mittens, sock snowmen sculptures, calendars, drawing and painting, musical instruments, and outdoor activities.
The classes will be held at the Pagosa Springs Elementary School Art Room.
The camp will run for two weeks during the school’s winter break. This program is for students in first to sixth grades and will take place Monday through Thursday Dec. 20-30, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Cost is $35 per day. Tuition includes instruction and supplies.
Early registration is encouraged. Class is limited to 20 students per day. Daily space depends on availability — first come, first served. Print out a registration form at our web page, www.hands-on-artscamp, or look for it coming home with your child this week from the elementary school.
Lisa Brown has had the privilege of teaching for 21 years. She currently teaches art K-6 in Ignacio and has resided in Pagosa for 16 years.
Tessie Garcia has been teaching art at Pagosa Springs Elementary School for 18 years. Tessie and Lisa have been teaching together at the Summer Arts Camp for 15 years.
Also, we promote Art for a Greener World. That is our motto. We encourage and educate students in reusing, reducing and recycling.
We would appreciate the following items for our classes: Used wool sweaters (90-100 percent wool) for making hats and mittens, and colored socks for our snowmen sculpture.

Students need to wear comfortable older clothes and they need to bring winter gear, a snack, water, lunch and a good Art-i-tude!
