Michael “Scott” Kay was born in Grand Junction, Colo., on Jan. 5, 1969. He died at Wolf Creek Ski area while working avalanche control on Nov. 22, 2010. Scott was 41 years old.
Scott leaves behind a wife, Chantelle; two sons, Nolan, age 8, and Rhead, age 6; his father, Skip, mother, Jo, sister Danielle, and two grandmothers, Pauline Young and Marie Kay.
Scott spent his early years in Lakewood, Colo. He then moved to Walsenburg, Colo., where he graduated from John Mall High School in 1987. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served honorably for the next six years. He was a reconnaissance Marine and veteran of the Persian Gulf War.
There was nothing more important to Scott than his family. He was an amazing dad and devoted husband. Scott enjoyed anything and everything in the “Great Outdoors.” He was an avid hunter, snow skier, water skier, kayaker and dirt bike enthusiast. Scott leaves behind a piece of himself in all those who knew him. He was an amazing man, full of life, exuberant, fun-loving, hard-working and dedicated.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 4 , at 10 a.m. at Pope John Paul II Catholic Church. Parking lots at the church and at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church will be available for parking.
