“A Classic Christmas” takes place at 7 p.m. Dec. 17 at the Ross Aragon Community Center.

Featuring Larry Elginer, Bob Nordmann, Matthew and Tiffany Brunson, John Graves, Johnny K and Natalie Oman, June Marquez, Heidi Tanner, Jean Smith and Mark DeVoti, “A Classic Christmas” is a joyful concert of heartwarming holiday songs and elegant classical music sponsored by the community center and Elation Center for the Arts.

A pre-concert social, with live music, begins at 6 p.m. Free coffee and a beer and wine cash bar will be available throughout the evening. Please bring desserts and snacks to share for the pre-concert social and during the intermission, if you wish.

Heidi Tanner and Jean Smith will perform movements from Mozart’s “Violin and Piano Sonata No. 9 in F Major,” on violin and piano.

Heidi Tanner started playing the violin at age 9 and in her senior year of high school was co-concert mistress of the Tulsa, Okla., Youth Symphony. In her early 20s, she changed gears towards a business degree at which time she put the instrument down due to career interests, marriage and children. After moving to Pagosa Springs in 2006, she took the instrument back up again, having been given an opportunity to play a solo with the Community Choir conducted by Larry Elginer. Since that time she has enjoyed playing for the high school’s production of “West Side Story” and, more recently the Music Booster’s production of “Annie.” Heidi is a member of the Divertimento Quartet, a group of three string players and one bassoonist, which has enjoyed playing at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church’s Unplugged series and at the River Point Coffee Cafe.

Jean Smith is professor emerita, chemistry department, University of Nebraska. She studied piano and organ with Marie Boette in Parkersburg, W. Va. and at The College of Wooster and West Virginia University. She has been the organist at Presbyterian churches in Salt Lake City and currently accompanies the sing-along each month at the Unitarian Fellowship in Pagosa. Since moving to Pagosa Springs in 2002, Jean has been active in the Pagosa Springs Arts Council, Habitat for Humanity and the project for Pagosa’s sister community in the Gurais Valley in Pakistan.

Bringing together families and friends to share conviviality and goodwill, “A Classic Christmas” has been a memorable tradition in Pagosa for the past several years. Christmas is a celebration that connects people across the globe. Connect with your community at “A Classic Christmas” and enjoy a bevy of talented musicians and singers at this year’s joyful holiday music celebration.

Advance tickets to “A Classic Christmas”, for $10, will be available at Higher Grounds and the community center. Tickets at the door are $12. Young people, 18 and under, are admitted free. The Ross Aragon Community Center is located at 451 Hot Springs Blvd. For further information, call 264-4152.
