Obituary - Mary Lou Graves

Mary Lou Graves went home to be with Jesus at the age of 79. I know she is up in Heaven with a martini in her hand, singing and dancing with the angels.

She was born Oct. 8, 1931, in Siebert, Colo., to William and Virginia Graves. She was raised in Fairplay, Colo., and in her junior high years she moved to Los Angeles, Calif., where she lived till 1996, when she moved with her daughter and grandson to Pagosa Springs.

Her whole life revolved around raising her daughter Brenda Decker, and then her grandchildren. Dakota Decker and Danielle Decker who she babysat and spoiled rotten. She watched Breann Decker grow into a beautiful young lady. She was also known as “grandma” to Jessica, Thomas and Nick, the kids of Misti and Glenn Margetic, who she claimed as her other children that she loved very much. Also Roberta Olson of Los Angeles, and Jennifer Brink of Hammond, Wisc., and Angie Nungaray of Los Angeles, were also her “adoptive” daughters that she also loved very much.

She retired from Marriot Corp. with 40-plus years of service. She worked in their food service department. After her retirement, she helped her daughter at her pet grooming business for a number of years; she loved being with the animals. She was an avid animal lover. She bottle fed and mothered a lot of orphaned animals; no furry creature was ever turned away. Her animals were her passion.

Surviving Mary Lou is her daughter Brenda Decker and son in-law Warren of Pagosa Springs; her three children, Dakota Decker, Danielle Decker of Pagosa Springs and Brennan Decker of San Antonio, Texas; her sisters, Ginger Richardson and brother in-law Don of La Puente, Calif., Dorothy Boyer, and brother Bud Graves of Baldwin Park, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews, Peggy, Debbie, Lori, Kimmy, Kelly, Kendall, Scott, Rae-Lyn, Debbie, Bill, Cheryl and Buddy. Also her great friends Steve and Shirley Keno of Pagosa Springs and Jim and Ginny McGirr of Kansas City, and their boys James, Chris, Randy and Eric.
