As Dec. 3, the date for the opening Christmas concert, draws nearer, The Pagosa Springs Community Choir is sounding better and better with each rehearsal.
As we prepare some old favorites such as “All is Calm, All is Bright,” “Calypso Lullaby” and some beautiful new selections such as John Rutter’s “Carol of the Magi,” the concerts promise to be the best ever.
Along with our capable director, Larry Elginer, we owe much of the choir’s success to our outstanding accompanist Venita Burch. Venita, a California import, has been playing the piano for us for several years. Her fine work is evident in several of our more difficult accompaniments, but the most moving example may be the haunting “The Darkest Midnight in December” written for the celesta, and performed by Venita on piano.
The concerts will be on Dec. 3 and 4 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 5 at 4 p.m. The concerts will be presented at the high school auditorium.
